Eriksons 8 Stages of Development Our personality traits come in opposites. We depend of ourselves as optimistic or pessimistic, independent or dependent, unrestrained or unemotional, adventurous or cautious, leader or follower, belligerent or passive. Many of these are inborn personality traits, exclusively other characteristics, such as feeling any workmanlike or inferior, appear to be learned, based on the challenges and jump we receive in growing up. Eriksons philosophical system may be said to go on 2 major themes: 1. the world gets bigger as we go along and 2. disappointment is cumulative.
